Adewale Ayuba announces his five-track Arise album for September 19, marking a fresh chapter and a shift towards shorter music releases
Nigerian Fuji legend Adewale Ayuba has announced that his new five-track album, Arise, will be released globally on September 19, 2026, marking what the veteran musician describes as a new chapter in his career.
Ayuba made the announcement during an interview with journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, explaining that the project reflects his decision to move away from the lengthy albums and extended songs that characterised an earlier era of Fuji music.
The Adewale Ayuba Arise album will feature five tracks, including Ileke, All Over the World, Kututu and Yetunde, alongside another song yet to be identified in the announcement.
Ayuba said his recent singles, Koloba Koloba and Uncommon, helped him gauge how audiences would respond to his new musical direction before he completed the project.
“The two singles that I did, including Koloba Koloba, were just to sample and see whether people would appreciate them,” he said.
According to the Fuji star, the positive reception encouraged him to bring the songs together as a five-track project.
Ayuba said the title Arise reflects his intention to begin another phase of his musical journey, rather than simply marking another album release.
“I’m no longer going to do long-form albums or 33-minute songs. I’m going with singles. That’s why I called it Arise, the beginning of another journey in my life,” he said.
The decision represents a notable shift for an artist whose career has been closely associated with the traditional Fuji format, where extended recordings allowed musicians to develop lengthy musical narratives.
However, Ayuba said changing listening habits have influenced his approach. He intends to release shorter songs more frequently while retaining the substance that has defined his music over the years.
For the Bonsue Fuji crooner, commercial evolution does not mean abandoning his artistic identity.
He stressed that his music remains driven by messages and that versatility continues to be central to his craft.
“I just want people to know that I’m versatile; I can do anything with music,” Ayuba said.
The veteran musician also encouraged listeners to hear Arise when it arrives on September 19 and judge the project for themselves.
The album comes after a period in which Ayuba has continued to release new material while remaining a prominent figure in Nigerian Fuji music.
His latest approach suggests a willingness to adapt to the faster pace of contemporary music consumption without losing sight of the genre and musical identity that established his reputation.
With Arise, Ayuba is positioning the next phase of his career around shorter releases, global availability and a potentially more frequent connection with his audience.
