Delta Air Lines celebrates its centennial by reopening the renovated Delta Flight Museum on April 7, offering an immersive look at the airline’s 100-year history.
In celebration of its landmark centennial, Delta Air Lines has announced the reopening of its Delta Flight Museum on April 7, showcasing the airline’s rich 100-year history and its commitment to people-first values.
The newly renovated museum, located at Delta’s headquarters in Atlanta, is set to offer an immersive and interactive experience that highlights the airline’s legacy while looking toward its future.
The announcement, made by Kelley Moore, Executive Director of the museum, was shared in a statement to Akonitv on Tuesday. According to Moore, the renovated museum is a tribute to the individuals who played key roles in shaping Delta’s success, particularly as the first U.S. airline to reach its 100th year in operation.
“The renovation of the museum, housed in two former hangars at the heart of Delta’s Atlanta headquarters, transforms the space into a vibrant exhibit and event venue,” the statement read
It also noted that the museum’s updated design aims to preserve Delta’s history while providing a forward-looking perspective. Visitors can expect an engaging experience with cutting-edge exhibits, digital archives, and a deeper exploration of the airline’s rich past.
Since its opening in 1995, the Delta Flight Museum has attracted aviation enthusiasts and history lovers from across the globe. The updated museum not only showcases Delta’s historical milestones but also serves as a unique venue for various events, including conferences, business meetings, and even weddings.
This redesign reflects the airline’s dedication to providing an inclusive experience that appeals to a wide range of visitors.
Moore emphasized that the Delta Flight Museum is more than just a collection of artefacts. “It’s the heart of Delta,” she explained.
“The renovated exhibits allow us to share the human side of Delta, celebrating the people who have made this airline what it is today.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to connect with the personal stories and contributions of those who helped shape the airline’s legacy.
The renovation, which took over a year to complete, involved extensive work to refresh the two hangars, including the creation of new exhibits, digitising archival materials, and preserving invaluable artefacts.
The project was funded by the Delta Air Lines Foundation, as well as generous contributions from Delta employees, retirees, and museum supporters.
“Preserving Delta’s history is a massive task,” said Marie Force, Director of Archives at Delta.
“We’re committed to maintaining a connection to our past while inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals.”
As Delta Air Lines continues to make its mark on the aviation industry, the reopening of the Delta Flight Museum serves as a reminder of the airline’s rich history and its forward-thinking approach to the future of air travel.
With its immersive exhibits and commitment to preserving the human side of aviation, the museum promises to be a key destination for both aviation fans and those interested in the airline’s enduring legacy.
