FCT launches African Weaving Festival 2025, celebrating indigenous fabrics, cultural identity, and unity while boosting tourism and entrepreneurship

African Weaving Festival 2025 is set to commence this Friday in Abuja, organisers have confirmed. The third edition of the festival will spotlight Africa’s rich textile heritage under the theme “African Indigenous Fabrics: A Tool for Culture Diplomacy and Unity.”

The Executive Director of the FCT Department of Culture and African Weaving Festival, Mr Sam Agbi, said the three-day event aims to celebrate indigenous fabrics while promoting cultural identity, creativity, and continental unity.

Beyond cultural appreciation, AWeF 2025 is expected to boost tourism by attracting visitors, exhibitors, and cultural enthusiasts from across Africa and the diaspora.

“The festival provides a vibrant platform for showcasing Nigeria’s cultural tourism potential, encouraging heritage preservation, craft-based entrepreneurship, and cross-border cultural exchange,” Mr Agbi stated.

The event will also highlight Nigerian arts and culture as tools for national development and international cooperation. Stakeholder participation is seen as key to promoting the nation’s creative sector and leveraging it for economic growth, peace, and unity.

The FCT Department of Culture and African Weaving Festival reiterated its commitment to revamping Nigeria’s cultural landscape through programmes that advance both national identity and socio-economic development.
