Kunle Afolayan Cinema Launch adds a 115-seater theatre to his creative empire, enhancing Nigerian film distribution and honouring his legacy in Nollywood

Kunle Afolayan Cinema Launch has sparked celebration across Nollywood and beyond, as the acclaimed filmmaker expands his growing creative empire with a new 115-seater movie theatre.

Announcing the cinema on Instagram, Afolayan posted a sleek video showcasing both the interior and exterior of the space. In the caption, he wrote, “It shall be called The Kunle Afolayan Cinema for the great works he has done in the movie and entertainment industry. It is a 115-seater cinema. Thank you @seyivodi.”

The announcement drew an immediate and emotional response from fans and colleagues. Actor Muyiwa Ademola reacted with heart emojis, while Femi Adebayo commented warmly, “Congratulations omoya.” Veteran actor Saidi Balogun added, “Well done!” and filmmaker Uzee Usman described the milestone as “Impactful!”

This achievement comes just months after Afolayan inaugurated the KAP Film Village and Resort on 12 April. The 60-acre facility, located in Igbojaye, Oyo State, includes studios, training centres, and on-site accommodation.

The goal is to build a fully integrated ecosystem that supports every phase of the filmmaking process.

With the cinema now operational, Afolayan has taken one step further toward that vision. It represents the distribution and exhibition wing of his creative journey, complementing his expertise in storytelling and production.

By housing his own cinema, Afolayan can now control how audiences experience his films and those of other creatives in his network.

Many believe the launch symbolises more than personal success. It signals a new phase for Nigerian film where local infrastructure begins to match the calibre of local talent.

As one Lagos-based film critic remarked, “What Kunle is building isn’t just a brand—it’s a legacy for Nigerian cinema.”

Though not his first bold move, this cinema adds visible proof to Afolayan’s enduring impact on the industry. From award-winning titles like The Figurine and Anikulapo, to establishing a film village and now opening a cinema, he is covering every layer of the business.
