The initiative, set to amplify the state’s global cultural standing, is also positioned to revitalise tourism and deepen diaspora engagement.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday by Mr Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts, and Culture. He described the collaboration as a powerful tool in advancing Lagos’ cultural diplomacy and economic diversification objectives.

“This partnership is more than just celebration—it’s a bridge to deeper diaspora involvement and long-term transformation,” Aregbe said.

He affirmed that the move is in line with the THEMES+ agenda, with a focus on storytelling, socio-economic advancement, and global visibility.

Set under the theme Africa to the World: Culture, Creativity, and Collaboration, the African Cultural Festival will officially commence with a series of countdown events across Lagos in July 2025.

These activities will build momentum toward the flagship event scheduled for Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on 19–20 September 2025.

According to organisers, the event will attract a global audience, including African leaders, the diaspora, U.S. lawmakers, and key cultural stakeholders.

Central to the festival’s programming are the Africa Arise Leadership Summit, the ACF Marketplace, the African Diaspora Summit, Taste of Africa, and the African I-D-E-N-T-I-T-Y Exhibition.

Lagos is expected to be represented by a dynamic delegation of creatives, innovators, and entrepreneurs who embody the city’s cultural vitality. Their participation is aimed at showcasing the artistic and commercial depth of Lagos to an international audience.

Aregbe noted that the partnership goes beyond cultural celebration to embrace economic diplomacy and opportunity creation. He stressed the need for more cross-continental collaborations that inspire growth, visibility, and exchange between Africans and the wider world.

As part of the 2025 rollout, the festival will also honour outstanding figures through the Celebrating African Elders ceremony. Notable honorees include textile art matriarch Nike Okundaye of Nike Art Gallery and community leader Miss Phipps.

One of the landmark highlights of the festival will be the launch of Duduplugs, a cutting-edge digital platform designed to connect Africa’s creative and economic sectors to global markets.

The platform will play a vital role in increasing tourism interest in Lagos while expanding export opportunities for local creatives.

The Lagos-African Cultural Festival pact is being facilitated by ACI Entertainment, a cultural enterprise that operates in both Lagos and Pennsylvania.

ACI aims to use the festival to showcase the continent’s best in culture, music, innovation, and entrepreneurship, all within a context that appeals to both local pride and global relevance.

“This isn’t just a Lagos story; it’s an African story told with Lagos energy,” said one of the project leads. “We’re blending the best of the continent and positioning it for global appreciation.”

With Lagos emerging as a leading African hub for culture and innovation, this partnership is seen as a strategic play to extend its influence beyond the continent.
