Nigeria China cultural ties strengthened as ministers meet in Beijing, pledging deeper cooperation in tourism, film, and the creative economy

Nigeria China cultural ties received a major boost on Monday as Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, met with China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, H.E. Sun Yeli, in Beijing.

The high-level talks focused on accelerating the implementation of existing memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and updating agreements to reflect new opportunities in culture, tourism, and the creative industries. Both sides also explored investment opportunities in cultural infrastructure to enhance cooperation.

The meeting built on the momentum of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent state visit to China, with both ministers agreeing on practical steps to translate cultural diplomacy into concrete results.

A highlight of the session was the presentation by Nigerian Film Corporation managing director, Ali Nuhu, who showcased opportunities within Nollywood as a platform for cultural exchange and foreign investment.

According to the ministry, the talks reaffirm Nigeria’s determination to expand its global presence in culture and tourism while developing sustainable opportunities for its creative economy.

The discussions underscored the strategic role of tourism, film, fashion, and heritage in economic growth, while highlighting the shared commitment of Nigeria and China to deepen cultural diplomacy.

Looking forward, the Beijing meeting is expected to set the stage for greater exchanges, increased investment, and a stronger cultural partnership between the two countries.
