Nigeria is set to launch its inaugural online portal for international passport applications.

The Interior Minister, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, will officially unveil the platform on Monday, January 8, 2024, in Abuja.

The minister, in collaboration with the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs. Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, conducted a demonstration session on Friday where she showcased the features and functionalities of the new online portal.

Key stakeholders and development partners attended the session, providing constructive feedback to enhance and refine the system.

The online passport application portal caters to both local and international applicants, offering two categories for passports.

Nigerian applicants opting for a 5-year validity with 32 pages will pay ₦25,000, while those preferring a 10-year validity with 64 pages will pay ₦70,000.

Overseas applicants seeking a 5-year validity passport with 32 pages will pay $130, and those desiring a 10-year validity with 64 pages will pay $230.

Applications can be submitted through the portal at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.

Notable participants at the demo session included Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission; Stephen Matete, representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM); and Dr. Joe Abah, Country Manager at Development Alternatives Incorporated, among other esteemed individuals.

This innovative step aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved public services and reinforces its stance as a forward-thinking nation in the digital era.

The online passport application portal promises increased efficiency, accessibility, and convenience for applicants, marking a new chapter in Nigeria’s travel documentation procedures.
