RC Ikoyi Metro has been named the overall best club in Rotary International District 9112, triumphing among over 90 clubs as outgoing Governor Lanre Adedoyin receives warm tributes in Lagos for his impactful tenure

The Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro emerged as the overall best club in Rotary International District 9112 on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at a special appreciation event held in Lagos to honour outgoing District Governor Rotarian Lanre Adedoyin as he completes his 2025-2026 term.

The announcement came during an evening that doubled as a farewell for Adedoyin and a celebration of clubs that delivered outstanding service projects across the district, which encompasses Lagos and Ogun States and includes more than 90 clubs.

Rotarian Engineer Alexander Chukwu, who served as club president for the 2025-2026 Rotary year, led RC Ikoyi Metro to this prestigious recognition through a consistent programme of high-impact initiatives that stood out for their innovation, reach and measurable results.

The club’s achievements included a landmark 150 million naira renovation of wards C1 and C2 at General Hospital Odan in Lagos, which equipped the facility with modern medical tools, improved water systems and upgraded infrastructure to enhance patient care.

This project earned the club third place in Rotary’s global Power of Goodness Video Competition, bringing international acclaim.

In education, RC Ikoyi Metro hosted an interschool debate on the future of artificial intelligence, awarding prizes and scholarships worth one million naira to participating Lagos students.

The club also empowered 64 artisans, including tailors, barbers, hairdressers, bakers, shoemakers and welders, with professional tools valued at 15 million naira to boost their businesses and livelihoods.

A menstrual hygiene outreach reached over 900 girls with sanitary pads and education sessions, while inmates at Ikoyi Correctional Centre received relief materials and legal support to aid their reintegration.

Adedoyin, who presided over the district with an emphasis on service and accountability, received warm tributes from Rotarians for fostering an environment where such excellence could thrive.

The gathering featured the District Governor Elect, Rotarian Layi Abidoye, signalling strong continuity.

Speaking at the event about the club’s empowerment drive, Rotarian Alex Chukwu said: “We decided to invest directly in people.

By equipping them with tools, we’re reducing poverty, taking idle hands off the streets, and creating a ripple effect in the community.”

Fellow Rotarians described the best club award as fitting recognition for sustained excellence rather than isolated efforts, capping a successful year under Adedoyin’s leadership.
